Storyline:
A teens with special abilities in a realm where special abilities are outlawed. They aged out of the safe house where they were living and now have to face the world. They decide they want to journey to the capital to overthrow the government so they are no longer persecuted. They have to travel through the realm liberating groups/towns to bring piece to the innocent.
Game Pitch and Core Loop:
- Our game is a single-player isometric ¾ top down 2D RPG. The goal is to overthrow the corrupt government. To achieve this goal players must explore levels, fight low level opponents and unlock power ups to gain the ability to fight the enemies and eventually get to the main boss.
- Explore: Search each level for clues to find your enemy and liberate the town.
- Battle: Fight against the level's enemies to unlock the chests and free the townspeople.
- Loot: Gain power ups from fighting the level boss; 9 possible items to gain.
Main Interactive Components (Win Condition)
Overthrow the corrupt government and liberate the gifted. Each level the player will have to explore, fight low level opponents and unlock power ups that help defeat the main boss.
Main Interactive Components:
Player VS Society (Government)
- Main conflict and Final Boss is the Government Leader
- The player’s end goal is to make it to the Final Boss and defeat them
Player VS NPC (Government Soldiers)
- Boss at the end of each level but players have to defeat the other enemies before reaching the final boss
- Defeat them to advance the game and move onto the next level
Rules:
- The game begins by the player existing the safehouse
- The player then has to explore the town:
- Talk to nps to learn more about the town and the gameplay
- Find chests to gain powerup to improve combat skills
- Once a chest is opened player can choose when item to pick.
- There are 9 different items available.
- Colours indicate which level of rarity the item is, the better the rarity the more powerful the item is.
- Based on what's in the chest players can choose what to keep and what to switch out from their inventory for a better item.
- Find and defeat all the towns enemies
- Players can use the slash, lightning and teleportation abilities to defeat their enemies/
- Once the player had developed their skills by collecting power ups and defeating enemies, they are ready to fight the final boss and save the town.
Powerups:
- 3 slots: Boots, Rings, Amulet
- 3 levels of rarity: Grey, Blue, Gold
- 9 possible objects
- Grey, Blue, Gold, percentages for each rarity where the chance of getting gold items is very rare, blue is more common, and grey is always in a chest. No duplicates, and after picking an item, it will not show up again.
- The items can be upgraded by picking a higher rarity of the same item.
Project Intent:
For this project we wanted to create a story that is a reflection of the real world. With this we wanted the gameplay to be fun and engaging with a storyline that is thought provoking. We put the player in a post apocalyptic environment featuring run-down buidlings to reflect the broken, corrupt government. We tried to ensure game play was exciting yet challenging, to drive the player to continue with the game loops.
Project Reflection:
We had really big ideas and learned very early on that we should scale it down. From there on we worked well together by constantly communicating issues or even compliments with each other. There were moments of panic when we thought we were behind, but then we all worked together to make our game as visually appealing and functioning as it is now. Having a lot of complex ideas also helped to still have the game be fun and interesting even when scaled back.

Future Stretch Goals:
- Puzzles to unlock next level after getting chest/loot
- More than one level
- Different characters with different abilities for the player to choose from
